I don't remember how, but when I was thirteen, I acquired a pen pal from Denmark. In spite of the language barrier, we have managed to keep-up our correspondence all these years.
(postcard from my small collection)
I was a collector of stamps back when I first started writing letters and I used to love the foreign stamps that would arrive on the envelopes from Denmark.

That reminds me of the penpals I had when I was younger but have sadly lost in touch with now. One was from Germany and one was from Australia. I wonder how they are now.
It's lovely that you still keep in touch with your PenPal.
Happy New Year!

I placed an ad in a national magazine way back in the early 70's - I had so many responses for pen pals - I had so much mail! I still have one penpal friend left after all this time - three years ago we met for the first time - it was just like we had known each other for ever, but then I guess we have! Times have changed though , now it's emails, sadly there are not many paper letters written any more....
I also had a pen pal when I was a pre-teen. She came from the Orkney Islands in Scotland, and her life was so different than mine. It was a thrill to see an envelope with the foreign stamps in our mailbox. I can still remember her name, I wonder where life has taken her.... I bet I still have some of the letters somewhere.
During my teen-age years, I had a slew of pen pals from various states and countries! I think at one point in time, I had around 100 pen pals, ha, ha! Don't ask me how I was able to keep-up with all of them!
At any rate, I think it's a blessing that you have been able to keep in contact all these years with your friend in Denmark. I lost ALL of those 100's of pen pals that I used to correspond with YEARS ago!
Very cool!
I have a couple of pen-pals! I sure enjoy receiving their letters!
Nice tour in the last post. I haven't ever been there.
Warmly,

I love this story of your pen pal. I never had one but my younger sister did as a young teen. He is from Wales. He came to visit twice. We followed his life, married, children. We met him in Dublin for a couple of days. Such fun. I am glad i got to know you the past year.
Happy New Year!

lovely postcards, and what an awesome thing to be pen pals for so long! it's nice to scan your blog, my half of the family is all from Minnesota so it's like a breath of home. I'ts been a while since I spent any time in the cities. (see I know what they are called!) so tell, me. Is the IDS building still a big deal?
