Doris

I was flipping through the television channels last Sunday in search of the Twins baseball game and stumbled across the movie, Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1960) starring Doris Day and David Niven.

As I gazed at the screen admiring Doris’ lovely dresses and her crisp, white gloves I remembered that I own a beautiful blue satin box full of pretty gloves that my mom recently handed down to me.

P.S. I settled in and watched the entire movie and heard later that the Twins beat the Angels 10-1! I wasn’t a very loyal fan on Sunday, was I?

Toys and Trees

Each year the summer thunderstorms cause large, heavy limbs to fall from the “vintage” trees growing in our yard.

The trees are huge and have grown very close together over the years. So close, in fact, that they are fighting each other for sunlight....growing crooked, venturing into our neighbor’s trees and stretching out into the street. The tree trimmers are receiving a huge amount of my pocketbook money!!

I have not found anything interesting at the thrift lately, so I will share two fun treasures from my childhood. This is a Raggedy Ann board game.

It was originally purchased from Sears for 99 cents!!

It's a fun game that my siblings and I played and even our own kids have played.

And here we have the ever-popular
Lucky Locket Kiddles!

This is my paper doll set consisting of Lorna, Lois, Larky, Liz, Lou, Lilac, and Lola

with all of their clothing.

And here is my actual doll...Lou Locket.

The chain is missing from the locket, but she is in very nice condition.

And no post is complete without a flower from the yard.

Until next time....

A Trip to the Lake

Minnesota is known as the land of 10,000 lakes.

We visited one of them this afternoon!

If my boys would learn to swim, we could take out one of the canoes!!
Hope you are having a fun summer!

Sorting

I have been busy all week sorting, organizing, uploading, downloading, transferring and printing photos. Here is a helpful tip: When you squirt body lotion on your toothbrush, instead of toothpaste, you know you have been working at the computer for too long!!

While thrifting recently I found an early version of the game “Go to the Head of the Class.” The graphics are cute.

Here is another cool find if you are into tennis…notice the cute rackets along the bottom of the skirt.

It is 59 degrees here today! Mother Nature seems to have taken our summer away. The cool weather has prompted me to think ahead to school, and as a result, I came home from the store today with several 27-cent boxes of crayons. School supplies already…… Thanks for stopping by.

A Neighborhood Estate Sale

Wow…an estate sale right here in my very own neighborhood!! I usually have to scan the ads, make sure there is plenty of gas in the car, map-out my route, wake-up early and bribe the kids in order to attend an estate sale. Last Friday we were all in the car on our way to a craft fair when my eyes spotted that happy yellow estate sale sign along the side of the road!! Needless to say, I pulled-over immediately.

Although I probably spent more time admiring the lovely screened-in porch and landscaping at this home rather than studying the actual merchandise, I did find some lovely treasures…..at affordable prices.

Tammis Keefe Hanky

Great patterns.

As for the craft fair, I spotted a young girl crocheting at her booth, patiently awaiting customers.

I purchased this scented, crocheted flower from her. I think I’ll wind it around a pen.

A pretty rose from our garden.

Until next time........

I also found some holiday aprons, which I will be listing in my Lollishop for the July 25 Christmas Event.Vintage Wilendur Tablecloth

Green Acres

Look at what I found as I sifted through some of my childhood belongings.

Paper dolls featuring Oliver and Lisa from Green Acres!!! (1968)

The clothes are made from the usual paper, but the dolls are made from that nice, thick cardboard with the shiny finish.

Obviously, their wardrobes have diminished a bit over the years.

Click here to visit a fun site that is devoted to Green Acres.

A cosmo from the yard.
See ya~

Swimming Lessons

The artist of my blog has not produced too many masterpieces lately. He is upset with me because I have insisted that he enroll in swimming lessons this summer. These are the very first swimming lessons he has taken and.....they are not going very smoothly. Tears have been shed. Better days ahead.

The Perfect Hostess

The perfect hostess displays impeccable manners, provides delicious food and sets a beautiful table.

She makes lovely aprons

that coordinate with her placemats.

She is very detail-oriented.

These photos were taken from a 1956 Coats and Clark's issue.
Have a nice day!
